North Beach Rd & Karrinyup Rd Intersection Upgrades
While out doorknocking in Gwelup, one of the matters raised by several residents was the issue of traffic congestion of North Beach Rd and Karrinyup Rd.
From these concerns, I raised an open petition to Minister Saffioti, the Minister for Transport, to investigate options to improve the operation of this intersection,
I am proud to announce that after strong community advocacy and overwhelming support for the Gwelup Traffic Congestion Petition, Main Roads WA has approved essential upgrades to the Karrinyup Road and North Beach Road intersection in Gwelup.
This project has been carefully assessed, with concept designs now finalised and approved for delivery under Main Roads WA’s Pinch Point Program.
Planned for completion in 2025, the upgrades include:
- Modifications to lane markings on North Beach Road to introduce a double right-turn movement, with the kerbside lane shared for both right and left turns.
- Changes to the eastern pedestrian crossing, converting it to a staged crossing for enhanced safety.
- Modification to traffic signal infrastructure to facilitate proposed intersection changes.
- Installation of CCTV and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to monitor and improve intersection performance.
These critical improvements will alleviate congestion, create smoother traffic flow along Karrinyup Road, and enhance the functionality and safety of this busy intersection for both residents and visitors.
Thank you for your advocacy and support in making these upgrades possible.
