Surf CAT Roadworks: West Coast Highway & Scarborough Beach Road

Surf CAT Roadworks: West Coast Highway & Scarborough Beach Road Main Image

To facilitate the Public Transport Authority’s new Surf CAT bus service, which is due to start travelling between Stirling Station and Scarborough Beach later this year, Main Roads is undertaking the following works to reduce congestion and improve accessibility:

  • Installing two new bus embayments on West Coast Highway, just north of Scarborough Beach Road, to provide alternative stops for routes 410 and 412 which are being extended to Karrinyup Bus Station.

  • Constructing dedicated east and westbound bus lanes on Scarborough Beach Road, through the West Coast Highway intersection, to prioritise public transport.

  • Modifying the lane configuration on Scarborough Beach Road’s eastbound approach to the intersection, limiting private vehicle movements to straight-through only. This will ensure the buses have priority through the intersection.

  • Improving pedestrian crossing facilities at the intersection to reduce delays and improve accessibility, providing alternating pedestrian phases and countdown timers.

These works are expected to be undertaken in October/November 2025 and most activities will be completed after hours to minimise traffic disruption on these busy routes.

Every effort will be made to minimise noise and disruption from the works, which will be undertaken in accordance with an approved Noise Management Plan.
