This year’s State Budget is all about doing what’s right for WA and starting to deliver on the commitments I made to you at the last State Election.
Through this Budget, funding for my smaller local commitments has been allocated and is being administered through the relevant State Government departments to local clubs and schools, with many already having received their funds and works now underway.
Here are a few of the smaller commitments I am delivering for our community.
- Innaloo – $200,000 for a perimeter fence at Yuluma Primary School and $80,000 for CCTV upgrades at Morris Place Shops
- Scarborough – $180,000 for new shade structures at Deanmore Primary School and $50,000 for Brighton Road safety upgrades
- Gwelup – $80,000 for Lake Gwelup Primary School for oval remediation, air conditioning in the Kindy Block, and a fan in the undercover area, and $50,000 for Friends of Lake Gwelup towards equipment and upgrades
- Doubleview – $40,000 for Doubleview House to upgrade their outdoor play space and $50,000 for Doubleview Primary School for oval remediation
- Trigg – $300,000 for Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club for clubhouse upgrades and $116,000 for North Beach Primary School to install fencing and roller shutters for the undercover area
- Karrinyup – $120,000 for a BMX/Mountain Bike Trail and $120,000 for a 3x3 basketball court at Lake Gwelup Reserve
This year’s Budget also delivers on larger priorities for our community, including:
- $18.5 million to introduce the Surf CAT in time for summer – a free, high-frequency bus service from Stirling Station to Scarborough Beach
- $1.5 million for rebuilding the Lake Gwelup Pedestrian Bridge
- $27.5 million for major upgrades to Karrinyup Primary School
- $1.5 million for upgrades to Doubleview Bowling Club
- $2 million for club upgrades at Scarborough Football Club, including expanded female changerooms
- $4 million for major upgrades at Innaloo Sports Club
- $4.5 million for air conditioning upgrades at Newborough Primary School
- Trialling noise detection cameras in Scarborough to crack down on hoons
Planning for these larger, more complex projects has already begun, and I have met with the relevant Ministers and the City of Stirling to ensure planning and works are underway to deliver these projects as soon as practicable.
I appreciate your patience and will update the community as each stage progresses.
Update:
- Modifications to the Traffic Lights on North Beach & Karrinyup Road.
We can confirm that the works were initially meant to commence in the second quarter of 2025. However, delivery has been delayed as modifications were required to the pedestrian crossing across Karrinyup Road. The project will enable a double right-turn out of North Beach Road onto Karrinyup Road westbound. Once implemented, this will allow for some spare capacity at the intersection to introduce gaps in traffic flow to enhance egress from Muir Street.
Main Roads is now finalising design for these modifications, and completion of the project is expected by the end of 2025.
