The Surf CAT is Here!

I am pleased to announce that the brand new Surf CAT service has been delivered by the Cook Labor Government!

Scarborough has come a long way in recent years. We’ve grown into a safe, vibrant, and welcoming community, a place known for events across sport and recreation, arts, music, and entertainment, events that bring people together and showcases the best of our coastline.

Scarborough, through tourism activation, is doing its part to diversify and strengthen the Western Australian economy. Scarborough was recently named one of Australia’s top ten beaches and is proudly cementing its place as Perth’s premier beachside destination.

But with our success has come pressure. Parking and congestion are major challenges, and many long-term locals tell me they no longer feel the same access to the beach and foreshore they grew up with or moved here to enjoy. Scarborough will never have enough bays to meet the demands of the thousands of visitors who come each year, we need to focus on better public transport and pedestrian connectivity.

  • A free, rapid, and frequent bus service that will operate between Stirling Station and Scarborough Beach through the heart of Scarborough, Doubleview and Innaloo.

  • The Surf CAT buses feature built-in surfboard racks for little and big groms alike and it is designed to reflect our coastal community.

  • The project also delivers new bus embayment’s along West Coast Highway, allowing the 410 and 412 routes to extend directly connecting the Scarborough foreshore and Karrinyup Shopping Centre another parking and congestion hotspot.

  • Upgrades at the West Coast Highway and Scarborough Beach Road intersection will improve traffic flow, give buses priority, and enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.

  • No tap on or SmartRider required.

These improvements will allow the Surf CAT to run frequently, reliably, and efficiently. Giving our community a convenient and free way to reach the beach, relieving traffic and parking congestion and supporting small business activation.

Scarborough is thriving!

We are Perth’s premier beachside destination, the gateway to the Sunset Coast and the Surf CAT will better connect our community and keep us moving forward.
